Introducing Linked Dashboard Controls

We’ve added the ability for a single dashboard widget to control multiple tables, views, and charts. This works even with nested fields (E.g. city field nested under state field), and you designate one table.field as the primary which is used for showing values from that field in the drop-down to a user.

Previously, if you had multiple tables, views, or joins, they would each need to have their own control widget but now they can all be linked so one set of controls can control all linked tables, views, joins, and charts so long as they are part of the same data source.

What It Does

Linked Dashboard Controls are a dashboard-level filter across your data visualizations. Just drop the widget into your dashboard, then select which fields from various tables you want to link and have controlled by the control widget.

One selector filters many views. Update a value once — and watch all connected charts respond instantly.

You can use it for:

• Time range selection
• Geographic filters
• Product categories
• User segments
• …anything your data model supports.

Get Started

1. Add a new control widget to your dashboard or edit an existing one and select the field menu.
2. Select your first field from the menu (this will be the primary field).
3. Optional: Select additional fields from different tables to link to the primary field. You can easily edit or select another field in the menu and make it the new primary field. Click ‘Save’ to update the control widget.
4. Now, one control widget can update multiple charts in your dashboard that use the linked fields.
5. Verify the filters are working as expected for all linked fields and charts.
