Dashboard Date Controls: Time Comparisons and Period to Date

Zing Data already supported time comparisons within questions, and date filtering in dashboards. This update combines and extends both the time comparison capability, adds week-to-date, month-to-date, and year-to-date capabilities.

Enhanced Date Filter Options

Building on existing dashboard date controls, we’ve added relative date options:

This Week

• Whole week
• Week to date
• Starting Sunday or Monday options for both

This Month

• Whole month view
• Month to date

This Year

• Full year analysis
• Year to date

Integrated Time Series Comparison

Time series comparison functionality, previously available only for individual questions, is now integrated into dashboard date filters with a simple selector:

• Previous period: Compare current timeframe against the immediately preceding period
• Previous year: Compare current timeframe against the same period in the previous year

Comparison Operators

Existing date options are also supported:

• Standard comparisons: is, is not, after, before
• Inclusive options: after (inclusive), before (inclusive)
• Data validation: is empty, is not empty
• Range filtering: between, not between
• Relative dates: between a relative date (e.g. past 7 days) and future days (e.g. next 7 days), past, future, etc.

Application Scope

Date filters and comparisons can be applied at different levels:

• Single element: Apply to individual dashboard widgets

• Multi-element: Apply to multiple selected widgets

• Dashboard-wide: Apply to all elements within a dashboard

   

Customization Options

For even more complex date calculations, such as fiscal years with atypical start dates, Zing’s calculated fields allow defining included/excluded dates using the full range of SQL functions.
